Our story

EWB-BU is a non-profit collegiate chapter of national chapter of Engineers Without Borders USA , a non-profit organization that supports community-driven development programs worldwide by collaborating with domestic and international partners to design and implement sustainable engineering projects as well as educational, social, and community projects.

Currently, EWB-USA’s projects span 47 countries on 5 continents in an effort to close the disparities between communities around our globe. This developmental overhaul is achieved the holistic treatment of all facets of community, including engineering projects for water supply, sanitation, civil works, structures, energy, agriculture, and information systems.

Established in 2006 at Boston University, we are a group of college students that share an enthusiasm for bringing change and progress to developing communities. By directly partnering with developing communities, we aim to improve their quality of life through the implementation of environmentally sustainable, equitable, and economical engineering projects while developing internationally responsible engineers and engineering students. We use our engineering skills to solve problems ranging from clean water access to clean energy in the MBTA.

Water

the source of all life

Water sanitations is EWB BU's primary focus. Access to clean water resources has remained a major global issue; almost 800 million worldwide still do not have access to basic water services. Focusing on helping communities, EWB-BU has been implementing water sanitation projects helping hundreds of people access to clean and usable water resources.

Technology

Getting people connected

Aside from water, EWB-BU has also focusing on providing technological resources to communities. Today, almost 3 billion people do not have access to internet while 10% is beyond the reach of mobile network. EWB-BU has been working on various technological projects to give communities access to internet and mobile networks.

Education

The most powerful weapon

"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world" - Nelson Mandela.

EWB-BU strives to uplift youth through education. By teaming up with global communities and local high schools, EWB-BU strives to empower our youth and prepare them for a lifetime of learning.

Community Awareness

bringing people together

"There is one good knowledge and one evil ignorance."
- Socrates

Stories are some of the most powerful tools for communication. In a story there is often something we identify with, something that resonates with us even though the story comes from people living half-way across the world. In this way, stories bring us closer to one another.

EWB-BU firmly believes that by telling stories we raise awareness for pressing global matters happening all around the world. We are currently working on a children's book that we hope will educate the next generation about the importance of awareness.
